As the drought deepened, the water district reduced the flow of water from local reservoirs, ensuring certain death for fish that inhabit Los Gatos Creek. Water officials said all the county’s creeks were drying up, but cutting releases from Lexington and Vasona reservoirs would help ensure that at least part of Los Gatos Creek would continue to flow until winter. The Museums of Los Gatos appointed Lisa Coscino executive director. Previously, she helped establish the Museum of Monterey and owned a gallery in Pacific Grove. The president of the museums’ board, Mary Ellen Comport, said at the time that Coscino has the fundraising, attendance-building and curator skills needed to expand the art and history museums as a cultural resource.

There’s another special reason to see this show, which only runs through Sept. 16. Malagon and her Tony, charismatic, handsome Jeffrey Brian Adams, make the audience really, REALLY believe that they are in love. That’s called authentic acting, and it’s a rarity. Then there are the well-choreographed dance numbers — sometimes with as many as 18 or 20 performers who all leap, twirl and sway on the smallish Hillbarn stage area. Occasionally Kim Harvath’s choreography has a few clichéd movements, and the ballet sequence is rather lackluster, but when those graceful Jets and Sharks and their vivacious dolls (all dripping with loads of makeup, flashy dresses and layers of billowing crinolines) let loose, it’s sheer bliss.

Directed by Michael Sally, the show moves along at a good pace despite some line problems on opening night, Stewart Lyle created an artistically elegant white set with warming beige and rose tones, well-lit by lighting ballet burp cloth/dance/ballet shoes/ballet/ballet baby/ballet burp cloth/dance/girly burp cloth/personalized burp cloth designer Courtney Johnson, while the uber-talented Clay David created the impressive scenic art and costume design, “The First Supper” continues through June 26, followed by Rachel LePell’s one-woman show “Playing My Hand” (July 8-17), For information and tickets, call 510-523-1553 or visit www.altarena.org..
